Earliest archived hand sketches from Paul Matzinger and Erwin Lauffer date back to 1906.
Paul Matzinger takes on Rudolph Grosel as a partner. They branch into some small retail projects including Giant Tiger stores. It was a new concept in discount retailing. They are responsible for some of the first shopping centers for Visconsi Mead, JVJ and Jacobs. Paul Matzinger works to the age of 93.
Richard Jencen joins the firm. Grosel and Jencen form their partnership in 1957 and transition from malls to a specialty in retail tenant architecture. The partners design Milton Petrie's first store. 500 of 900 Petrie's stores were Grosel or Jencen designs.
Rudolph Grosel passes away in 1971 and Richard R. Jencen Associates is formed. The company continues to build on its success and expands.
Richard Jencen retires in 1992. See Leadership page for current partners.
